Just Your Typical Friday

It’s Friday again. I love Fridays. But not just because it means the weekend is here. It’s all the other things that come with it. Events and surroundings strung together to make up a wonderful day every week.

So what does a typical Friday hold for me? Take a look for yourself.

Hey! That’s my kiss!

Truffle Truffle Beer Mellows

On Friday I discovered an irresistible chocolate product that is offered by a company called Truffle Truffle. Can you guess what it is? You’re right! They are beer flavored marshmallows. I mean how can one pass those up? Especially with Valentine’s Day only a few days away.

I ordered me a little box of 4 of these delectable sounding treats. They wouldn’t arrive until today, 3 days after Valentine’s Day, but hey, totally worth it. Those things are awesome. I also ordered a small assortment box of four truffles ( keylime pie, double chocolate, lavender, and beer flavored). These too were quite amazing. Yes, I said were.

Valentine’s Day

We started Valentine’s day with a simple exchange of chocolates, gifts and kisses. To Holly, some chocolates, a nice pair of sewing scissors, and a cinnamon-nutmeg scented diffuser. For the kids, various chocolates and kisses. For me, some chocolate and a canvas print of a sloth holding a glass of Hefeweizen. Awesome.

The middle of the day went as normal. Filled with work and a naked playing child. The daily routine didn’t change much until the return of Gavin from school. That’s when it became time to prepare for our evening’s dinner. The shrimp was thawed and the beer and wine was chilled. Do some slight clean up, throw a nice table cloth and candle on the table, and voiala, the house is set for dinner. Ok, it wasn’t set to be a 5 star restaurant, but it was nicer than average.

For dinner, I served up a delicious Shrimp Scampi over pasta with a glass of French Rose wine. It was a hit. Gavin ate two servings and Holly made yum yum noises. The bottle of wine now sits empty. A delicious dinner. A delicious Valentine’s day. I hope everyone has as lovely a day as mine.

Valentine Cards

With Valentines day rapidly approaching and the kids needing to be busy, I sat them down with paint, crayons, glue, glitter, and paper to make up some Valentine cards. We had already bought some chocolates for her and now she will have some handmade cards to go with them. It was a blast. Leif particularly liked the glitter and looked like a sparkly vampire sitting in a sparkly vampire throne by the time we were done.

Our First Successful Superbowl

We’ve never been ones to celebrate Superbowl in any way other than using it as an excuse to eat chicken wings. We don’t have favorite teams or even watch football. Our past efforts mostly include trying to watch crappy football movies, eat chicken wings, and drink beer. But with no real excitement behind it all, it ends up just being a chicken wing, beer, and crappy movie Sunday.

This year was different. One of Holly’s girlfriend lives in Pittsburgh and is, of course, a huge Steelers fan. She had even sent us a care package a few weeks back that contained a few Steelers pens. Therefore, we actually had a team to root for, and therefore, had a real reason to celebrate Superbowl. So that is what we did.

We made ourselves a wonderful menu of chicken wings, chips, guacamole, home-made ice cream, beer (mostly my own of course), and peanut butter pie. Then we invited some friends over. What’s a Superbowl party without friends after all?

We sat and watched the big game, all the while explaining how it works to Holly. She finally caught on and said, “I can see how this could be exciting and intense.”

In the end, of course, the Steelers lost, but otherwise, we finally had our first successful Superbowl celebration.
