It’s not if, but when.

I made it to Oahu. I decided to venture out into the night on my motorcycle. It’s the first time I’ve driven Hana hwy with the motorcycle. And of course it rained most of the way up. There were a lot of cars on the road too. They kept blinding me. And I kept slowing to 5 mph or even stopping when they did. After 30 minutes of riding or so, I started getting a little used to the windiness of the road. I was able to handle the curves with a little more confidence. The number of cars coming the other direction decreased. And the rain slowed to just more than a mist. Things were looking up. Then I spotted a car coming from the other direction. I slowed down in anticipation. He came around a curve and blared his high beams right in my eyes. I slowed down some more. Then as he passed I regained my vision and saw I was entering really sharp turn, so I slowed down some more. Only this time the back tire locked. I let up and tried again. It locked again. And at a mere 5 mph I plopped my bike over into a big pile of mud. Splat. How embarrassing. My first whatever it was called, and no scrapes, no bumps, nothing dramatic. Just plop. Right into a pile of mud. Although, I suppose I’d rather there is no damage to my bike, than to have a dramatic story to tell.

Computer troubles

My computer has been giving me problems for a while now. Just recently it got worse. And two days ago I couldn’t go more than 20 minutes without getting an error saying I had to restart my computer by holding down the power button. Arg. Then when I tried to fix it, I got error after error. Can’t verify packages, not enough room, run disk utility, repartition your drive, blah blah blah. But today I win. I reformatted my drive, cleaned the computer and gave it a talking to. I finally succeeded in re-installing the operating system and it hasn’t blown up yet. I’ve run the updates without any errors. I win. Muahahahahaaa.

Today Was A Good Day

Today was a good day. We’ve all been a little slowed down by being sick. But today was good. Things we’ve done include making shrinky-dinks, make beer, finish a knitting project, finish a sewing project, dishes, watch Psych and play.

Today I made my first batch of from-scratch beer. I used a recipe for an irish porter. It was really satisfying to do. The grains steeped, the malt boiled, the hops flavored and the yeast started converting. Now the fermenter is sitting in a cupboard doing it’s thing. Next step, bottle (in 2-4 weeks). It smelled so good.

Holly finished her first sewing project today. She sewed herself a nice jacked out of red corduroy. It is really pretty. She did a terrific job. Pictures on her flickr page

As you can see from my previous post, I’ve finished my knitting project. The cardigan wrap I started over a year ago. Dang. Has it been that long? I guess so. Next up, some hose. Yup. Hose.

So what’s next. Tomorrow, Gavin and I will venture to the beach. It’s been way too long since we’ve gone to the beach. It’s been a little cold the past few weeks, but today was beautiful. If tomorrow is the same, it will make for a good beach day. We’re going to call up one of Gavin’s friends to see if they want to join us at the beach. Should be fun.

Finally Finished

Ok. here it is. I’ve finished the cardigan wrap that I’ve been making for Holly. I am very pleased with myself. It really does look quite awesome.

Exhausted

Leif has had a cold for well over a week now. He woke up this morning at 4 am crying and whaling. He started having one of those barking coughs. He also showed signs of a blocked airway. He was struggling to breath. And then gasping and letting out a nasty cough followed by lots of crying. Then repeat. This was how our morning was. Holly took off today. We took Leif to the doctor at 8. They checked him out. Made sure his oxygen levels were good, looked in his ears, weighed him, measured him, took his temperature, and listened to his heart and lungs. Then they told us he looked fine. We were told that it was probably just a cold or possibly crup. Either way, we can’t treat it. So we just have to wait it out. That’s a bummer. I’m exhausted. I didn’t really do any work today. We have been trying to relax. Hopefully we’ll be able to recuperate this weekend and rid ourselves of this stupidly annoying bug. Maybe with all this rest I’m getting, I’ll be able to finish this darn cardigan wrap. Or maybe I’ll just sleep.
