stressed out

Ok, I’m back again. I have been a little stressed out lately. My computer broke last Monday and I’ve been without it since. It is at the Apple store getting fixed. Of course directly after brining it to the store we brought Gavin to the hospital. Then After Gavin’s ordeal, I had an important deadline for MagsDirect.com. It went live on Wednesday. So I spent many hours during that week trying to get it done. ON A PC. Ewwwwwww. Really though, it wasn’t that bad. I got it done anyway. On top of that the theatre has made some changes in our inventory process. Of course it went haywire and I was up until 4am last night. Grrrr. But I think things are calming down. MagsDirect is up and running fine. I will get my computer back on Sunday or Monday. Inventory should be a bit easier next week with the bumps smoothed out. Gavin is Gavin again. I have “The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy” to read. And I get to play music on Sunday. Ahhhhh. What a relief. Speaking of which. It seems our shirts that we made are pretty popular. We have sold quite a few of them and there are people saying they want one and they want to know where we are playing or want mp3’s. So I’m excited. I talked to the bassist and he says that his schedule calms down when school gets out (he’s a sub). So I think at that point we will seriously try to get a gig. I can’t wait. Our first gig. Then we can sell more shirts. We will ROCK!!!!. Oh yes, we will ROOOOCK!!!!

Busy Weekend

Wow, this is going to be a busy weekend. Friday: I have to get up at like 9 am after working ’til 3 am and drive to Waimanalo to help load a truck with a bunch of our RSCDS inventory. Then we are going to drive across the island to Kapiolani park near Waikiki and set up the tents and tables and what not. After this is al set up I have to drive back across the island to go to work at Koolau where I will work until about 1 am. Saturday: Up around 9 am again and driving back across the island to Kapiolani park where I will spend the entire day setting up more tents and tables, selling shortbread and haggis, dancing scottish country and Highland dancing, and purchasing hose. Now that the festival is over for today, I will be going to a Ceilidh put on by the Caledonian Society. They were very kind and gave me two free tickets to the event for being the president of RSCDS. This should be a very pleasant evening with live music and entertainment, food, and of course, the good drink, SCOTCH. After having my tastes of scotch I will be able to head home for a good nights sleep. Sunday: Waking up around 9 am again to drive back across the island to Kapiolani park where I will continue to sell shortbread and haggis, dance scottish country and Highland dancing. Only at the end of this day we have to undo anything that we did on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Sigh. The festival is over. But it was a good Weekend. Oh, wait, it hasn’t happened yet. But I’m sure it will be. Once everything is broke down it is likely that the bunch of us dancers will go out for dinner to celebrate a successful weekend. Ahh. It is always so satisfying to accomplish these events. Now I can go home and get a good nights rest knowing that I can sleep in a little on Monday. That is unless Leo calls me yet again to open the theatre for him because he just woke up or is stuck in traffic. Sigh. Will it ever end?

The Story of “Naked Mike”

For a long time we our band had no name. This is something we were not really worried about, but was always parked in the back of our minds. Not too long after I moved to Hawaii, I got involved in a Sunday drawing group. Every Sunday there is a drawing group that gets together and, having paid a figure model to sit around naked, draw naked people all day long. Eventually (another story) I started doing figure modeling for this group and eventually the University of Hawaii, which included surrounding community colleges. Of course, everyone at the theatre knew about this. It came up in conversation one day while fellow employee “Edited Out” was with us and he got a funny look on his face. Come to find out that his sister was in one of the figure drawing classes I modeled for and he has many drawings of me naked in his house. Since then “Edited Out” has been considered the “Naked Mike Fanclub”. We always joke about it and quite frankly it is funny. He always talks about how he has these pictures that his sister drew of me. A little bit creepy. Not too long ago our bassist, Nate, had his birthday party at Dave & Busters. That night I drove home Gabe (our drummer) and Anita (our #1 fan). After just having discussed our next party and how we need to come up with a name for t-shirts and what not, “Edited Out” came up in conversation along with the “Naked Mike Fan Club”. Of course that is when we paused and Anita said, “That’s it! That is the name of the band. ‘Naked Mike'” We all had a good laugh about it and then realized that it was a good name. The next day we threw the idea to Nate and he immediately jumped on the name. And thus the name of our band…”Naked Mike”

Band T-Shirts

Now that we have finally come up with a name for our band, we want to make some t-shirts for our next party. “Naked Mike” t-shirts. The problem is I don’t know what to put on them. We had someone offer to do the t-shirts for us, but the problem there is that they actually meant get the shirts made once someone else did the design. So now I have been thinking about ideas for a shirt design and I can’t think of any. I have busted out my dusty sketchbook and started playing with ideas. Holly said she will try to come up with some ideas. It would be cool to have a few different designs that we could sell to people if they wanted. Or maybe just to be able to give to our friends. Either way, sometime in the near future, I will be posting some “Naked Mike” designs. I’m excited. I am loving this whole band thing. I look forward to every practice we have. I get super excited when I know we will be playing for people. I think our next party will be late next month or in May. I can’t wait. But we are definitely having a 4th of July party. If I can find any way to record us and have it sound halfway decent then maybe I can post something. Otherwise, you all will just have to imagine that we are really really awesome. He he.
